General Questions
Who created the League?
League Entertainment was created by Ken Chapman and John Jackson, aka Johnny Atomic. Leveraging the network of award winning illustrators and best-selling authors they’ve built over the last few years, League Entertainment became a reality in 2009. The League has contributed its talents to several well-known properties as well as creating books for clients and publishers. The League began publishing its own IPs in late 2010 and will be expanding to four imprints within the first year.
Can the League be utilized as an outsource studio?
Yes. The League does provide a la carte services to other studios and our clients. These include cover art design, character design, concept art, interior art services and story development. 3D development is also available.
How does IP development work?
It’s pretty simple. The League can be hired to develop an IP in its entirety from little or detailed direction from our clients. The overall price depends on the level of development.
Who owns the IP after it’s developed?
You do! Before any work begins, both parties would sign an IP Development Agreement. This contract reaffirms that the project is a Work For Hire and that the assignment of all rights are yours. It provides all necessary non-disclosure protections as well as all payment terms.
What is transmedia storytelling?
Transmedia storytelling is a technique of telling stories across multiple platforms and formats, allowing each platform to make a distinctive contribution to a fan's understanding of the story world. By using different media platforms and formats, transmedia strategies allow for the creation of multiple "entrypoints" through which consumers can become immersed in a story world.
Questions From Publishers
You mentioned that the League packages fiction. Do you package any other types of books?
Yes. Although the League distinguishes itself as fiction packagers, we do package non-fiction, trade books and other novelty book types.
Is the League a full service packager?
Yes! The League creates and develops original book concepts and publishing proposals for individuals, brands and institutions. The League can deliver a manuscript or a complete book to publishers.
Questions from authors, artists and others
Does the League accept unsolicited submissions from authors?
Although the League usually works with established authors (and ghost writers), we are always looking for that undiscovered author who has what it takes to be a member of The League. Although we do not accept unsolicited submissions, authors can send a query letter and brief synopsis within the body of an email (no attachments) to submissions@leagueent.com. Unfortunately, we can respond only to projects that we believe will be right for us. If we are interested, we will ask for more material.
Does the League need more illustrators, editors, etc.? Yes! We are always on the lookout for talented creators to work on a contract hire basis. Please direct all inquiries to info@leagueent.com.
